Editorial standards & corrections policy
How our numbers are sourced, rendered, and corrected.
Where the numbers come from
Every figure on PlainRRSP is rendered directly from a structured database, not typed into prose by an editor. RRSP, TFSA and RESP contribution limits come from the Canada Revenue Agency's registered-plan tables; provincial and territorial marginal-rate brackets come from each province's published income-tax schedule; the federal bracket schedule comes from the CRA. Each detail page links to its upstream government source so you can verify the number we used.
How figures are computed
Derived numbers, contribution room (18% of earned income, capped at the annual ceiling), combined federal-and-provincial marginal rates, and tax-deferral estimates, are computed deterministically from that source data, in the same code path on every page and in the calculator. We do not hand-adjust results. When a figure depends on an assumption (for example, that you have been TFSA-eligible since 2009, or are in the top federal bracket), we state the assumption beside the number.
Accuracy and limits
PlainRRSP is reference data and a calculator, not personalized tax, financial, legal, or investment advice. The figures reflect public rules and schedules; they cannot account for your full personal situation (other deductions, carry-forward room, pension adjustments, attribution rules, US filing obligations, withdrawals already taken). The binding figure for your RRSP room is the one on your CRA Notice of Assessment.
Corrections
We accept reader corrections on every page. If you flag an error, we either correct it in the next data build (when the upstream source has changed or we mis-mapped a value) or annotate the page referencing the original government source. We do not silently rewrite figures, material corrections leave a record in the data layer's change history. To report an error, use the contact page.
Independence
PlainRRSP is independent and reader-funded. We are not affiliated with the Canada Revenue Agency, any provincial finance ministry, any bank, broker, or robo-advisor, and we accept no compensation, referral fees, or sponsorship from financial institutions. Advertising, where shown, is clearly labelled and does not influence the data or the explanations.
Freshness
CRA publishes RRSP and TFSA limits for the coming year in late autumn; provincial brackets refresh with each provincial budget. We update the underlying database after each release and the methodology page records the vintage of every dataset in the current build.
